Lifetime of Service Award
Frankie Mims was not someone that many of us knew well personally. She worked long hours and served in many capacities in the positions she held at the Naval Hospital over the last thirty years. She was not known to us because we didn’t go where she served, but we heard about her from the patients that she touched. Frankie served as a Lactation Consultant at Navy Hospital for more than 15 years, in addition to many other roles that she took on as the need arose. She was many things to many people, but more than anything else, she was a servant. She served the patients she cared for, colleagues she worked with, and friends and family in her church.

Physician Leadership Award
The Physician Leadership Award recognizes and honors a medical student, resident or physician whose leadership and courage reflect a commitment to breastfeeding as a vital part of the health and development of children and their families. Awardees demonstrate exemplary commitment to maternal and child health through advocacy of breastfeeding education and support in the community and especially by their influence within the medical profession.
Finding a physician who advocates for breastfeeding to the point of bringing change to the medical profession is rare. We seek to honor this tenacity and dedication through the Physician Leadership Award. While we recognize that there are other primary care providers who support and encourage their patients in significant ways, the objective of this particular award is to honor physicians who are bringing change to the status quo in the area of breastfeeding advocacy among their peers. Therefore, only physicians are eligible for this award.
We accept nominations on a rolling basis, so nominations are accepted all year long. Each year the deadline for nominations is July 10th. Nominations received after that date will be considered for next year’s award.
